my immigration positions (written by DP);
first, whatever the law is, it must be enforced... it is immoral to not enforce laws, or worse, to only selectively enforce them (thats called discrimination folks). if current laws are unenforcable they must be revised or eliminated.
second, i would like to see us recognize what our country's immigration policy used to be; namely the exploitation of illegals. the only purpose of allowing second class citizens into the country is to get cheap labor with no strings attached, (like taxes and healthcare). illegals aren't protected by wage laws etc. because they have no legal standing, therefore they have no legal recourse available to them if they are violated.
then the solution needs to include the following;
first, secure the boarder. without a secure boarder, immigration laws cannot be enforced. this will lead to the perpetual state of a two class society.
second, be sure to allow enough immigration to satisfy the economy's demand for workers and to ensure that we maintain a steady population growth rate. (programs like social security don't work well with populations booms and busts)
