Whether one believes in Intelligent Design or not, the Flying Spaghetti Monster parody is an attack against something very specific: the inclusion of ID in public school curricula. It can also be couched as a backhanded defense of evolution as a science. But at the heart of this debate is the issue of Separation of Church and State.
This community will openly engage in debate about the tradeoffs that exist by consciously maintaining a barrier between public service and religious evangalism. We will not make policy statements about an argument that does not speak directly to the heart of the matter, that public service can be made free of religious influence for the good of both faith and community.
